It's a question because I'm dealing with a guy who is really dumb and I think it must have been bred into him or something. I need your help for a second and I'm not kidding around. You're the only guy I can trust with this.

This is between you and me and no one else, got it? OK. So let's say there's this guy. And let's say he says he likes you and that he thinks you're smart and pretty and things of that ilk, but he won't actually ask you out. He says he has a girlfriend back home, even though he's been here for years and hasn't seen her since then and spends a lot of time flirting with you. And all the while, you hang out and you can ask him to do anything and he'll do it. For example you could say "JUMP!" and he'd say "HOW HIGH?" And let's say this has been going on for about . . . two years. You with me so far?

sure. sounds insane, but sure.

It's not insane. It's just dumb. OK, so for two years you've basically been led on by some jerk who admits to liking you, but keeps holding a flame for some lady who you know he's never going to see again, but he made some promise to her or something back in the day and now everyone is miserable because he won't admit to himself that he's never going to see her again and just ask you out. How do you make this situation tolerable?

ok i'm going to give you an answer here but you're probably not going to like it. you can't force people to move on. it probably won't work, it'll probably just blow up in your face. that being said, you can force it. if you're anything like me, you will force it. and sometimes, it works out. a lot of the rest of the time...

so... take a risk. but be sure you're ready to deal with what comes of it.

And if his response is, OH GEE KATIE, I STILL HAVE A GIRLFRIEND BUT I THINK YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL AND SMART AND FUNNY AND BLAH BLAH BLAH AND I WOULD DATE YOU IF I WAS SINGLE? What then?
